The collective thought

Exploring Afrofuturist narratives through the work of pictures, collages, music, and spoken word to commemorate Black History Month.

In hopes of reigniting certain conversations surrounding
Our sometimes surreal experiences within this world.
Trusting that all these thoughts and intentions added to the moving force around us. As if we are all collectively thinking and wondering about what changes need to come to the now for an idealistic future.
And coming to terms with the fact that this is not just an isolated case, but rather a shared experience throughout the African diaspora.

The idea came to mind when I started asking myself questions about future narratives, within
the context of our often idealistic and yet dystopian reality. The first question I asked myself
was “Where do these thoughts go after they leave my head?”

With these ideas in mind, I created a mixed-media series depicting this journey. These works
are a result of research on said topics, conversations with people who look like me, and
eventually letting these new ideas, concepts, and perspectives take form.
